Celebrating 10 Years of Partnership: ReStart and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Over the past decade, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has partnered with ReStart, a leader in healthcare technology, to enhance patient care through improved interoperability. This article highlights key moments and achievements from their journey together.
Building the Foundation – InterSystems Interoperability
The partnership began ten years ago when the Trust recognised the need for a technology partner to help with bespoke integration to improve the interoperability of the Trust’s Ensemble Integration Engine, streamlining operations and enhancing patient care.
Dean Pates, Head of Applications and Development at Bedfordshire NHS Foundation Trust, noted, “When I joined in 2016, ReStart were already making a significant impact at the Trust. I was glad to have them on board for our digital journey.”
Interoperability Milestones
Over the years, the partnership has led to significant advancements:
- IMX Clinical Record (Viper 360): This comprehensive platform has streamlined patient records and improved data access for better patient outcomes.
- Integration Environment Support: ReStart’s 24/7 support proved essential during the COVID-19 pandemic by ensuring continuous system availability.
- Unlocking PAS (Patient Administration System) Data: ReStart developed a custom ‘superfeed’ to standardise data from the Trust’s PAS, enabling real-time patient information to be shared across the hospital.
- EPR Integration: Following the merger of Bedford and Luton hospitals in 2020, ReStart implemented multiple EPR (Nervecentre) functionalities that have improved patient care and digital maturity.
Navigating Healthcare Challenges
The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges, but both the Trust and ReStart adapted quickly, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and patient care.
Impact on Patient Care and Clinical Efficiency
This partnership has led to notable improvements in patient satisfaction, reduced waiting times, and better health outcomes. Healthcare professionals appreciate the tools that allow them to focus on patient care rather than administrative tasks.
Looking Ahead: Accessible Healthcare Data
As they celebrate a decade together, Bedfordshire NHS Trust and ReStart are eager to explore new technologies. Recently, the Trust selected ReStart’s IMX Archive for data archiving, enhancing access to legacy patient data through a familiar interface.
Dean Pates added, “The IMX Platform has unified our systems, giving clinicians a seamless experience and saving time and resources. We look forward to further collaboration, including the deployment of IMX Archive.”
As the EPR journey continues with further Nervecentre enhancements being integrated throughout 2024/2025, the partnership between Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and ReStart showcases the power of collaboration in healthcare. As they move forward, they will continue to embrace new technologies and strategies for innovative healthcare solutions.
