ReStart celebrates as “All Systems Go” programme reaches over 1,000 children.
Investing back into community programmes is a core ReStart value. This year, we have been proud to support Burnley FC in the Community as one of our chosen charities. We are delighted to share that the programme we sponsor, ‘All Systems Go’ has reached over 1,000 children across Lancashire with the numbers growing every week.
“All Systems Go” Programme
The objective of the programme is to bring computer science to life for children of all ages and abilities, often in deprived communities. Using the Sphero kit, it teaches them to code using colour algorithms and even allows them to add football commentary and storytelling to the game they create. Allowing them to showcase both their coding skills and creativity whilst understanding about new employment opportunities for them in the future.
The Impact
The programme has received fantastic feedback from the schools, and the Headteachers are very pleased with the impact on the students. Headteacher of Cherry Fold Primary School, Mrs Morreta said, “As a primary school with around 65% free school meals and with 23 languages other than English being spoken, it was wonderful to see fun, learning, and football bringing our community school even closer together. It’s this kind of shared experience that brings such happiness to our children.”
One of the students, Louis, said, “The robots were amazing, and it was great fun watching the players race them. Everyone cheered when Vaclav won!”
Lynette Ousby, CEO, ReStart says, “Being from Lancashire, I was keen that children in my community were given opportunities to understand the impact computer science makes in the world today. Potentially unlocking ambition and opportunity they never thought possible. I am delighted how successful the programme has been so far and I commend Burnley FC in the Community for their dedication to the programme and the children across Lancashire”
